The CONES name is actually spelled several different ways. Here are just a few examples of the spelling for Cones surname; [ Cones; Coons; Kuhns, Coombs; Combs; Conse, Kuntz, or the variants Kunz and Konz ].
Cones descendants immigrated to America from the noted locations: Germany; England; Italy; Spain; Ireland and Great Britain. However resources show that the Cones heritage is more German with the additives of Italy, Spain, Great Britain and Ireland. When our great ancestors arrived here in the United States, they scattered through out portions of the northeastern and central parts of the United States. Some states that are more commonly known for Cones descendants are New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana and a few others I did not include. Eventually more migrated across the country as far west as California.
One ancestor that is commonly searched is Christian Cones, said to of died in the Battle of Brandywine in 1777. He is said to of immigrated to the U. S from Holland, Germany. While information and resources will vary with every search and stories that are past down from each generation sure to conflict with an other; one thing is for certain, we all have joined the mystery of our Cones Family Heritage.
The best advice I can offer to every researcher is this, compare every resource. Everyresource that you find from your own search. Every resource from someone else’s search.Every generation has a story they pass down to the next, compare each story you find from any member willing to share it. Every family will have a different version that is passed on. We can all argue with each other about whose version is most accurate and which resources are wrong or right. But what I have found is that, no one resource or version is wrong or right. Each version, each resource has a piece to this large puzzle. Our job is to sift through all of this and find that missing puzzle piece and sometimes if we look hard enough there will be more then one puzzle piece found. So instead of trying to prove this person or that source wrong/right. Compare the information and search from there, your sure to find an other missing puzzle piece that you can share with the rest of us as we all join this mysterious hunt to learn more about our ancestry.
To this I must say, “Christian Cones, my friend and long lost ancestor of the Cones lineage, we will find you and we will learn more about you, someday in the near future…
I added an attached Resource link to learn more about the Cones Name and how to search descendants.
